Choosing Floors for a New Build in Fishers & Westfield

Fishers and Westfield are among the fastest-growing cities in Indiana. If you are building, here is how to get the floors right the first time.

· 5 min read

Fishers and Westfield have seen explosive new-construction growth - in Fishers, well over half the housing stock has gone up since 2000, and Westfield grew more than 200% in a single decade. If you are building or just closed on a new build, the flooring decisions come fast. Here is how to think about them.

Builder-grade is a starting point, not the ceiling

Builder packages keep costs down, which often means thinner LVP, basic carpet, and a limited color line. There is nothing wrong with that - but if you plan to stay, upgrading the main-floor flooring is one of the higher-impact changes you can make, and it is easier to do before all the furniture is in.

Match the floor to the room

Open main floors are a great fit for wide-plank hardwood or premium luxury vinyl plank run along the longest sightline. Bedrooms still benefit from soft, quiet carpet on a good pad. Finished basements and bonus rooms over a slab call for engineered hardwood or LVP rather than solid wood.

Think about the whole-home flow

New builds look best when transitions between rooms are intentional. We cut and fit each transition by hand so there are no awkward T-strips between spaces, and we bring the full sample line to your home so you can hold the plank against your cabinets, trim, and light before you commit. When the original builder carpet reaches the end of its life, this is what to replace it with.

Frequently asked questions

Should I upgrade the flooring in a new build?
Builder-grade flooring is specified to hit a price point at the time of sale rather than to last, and it typically wears through in the traffic lanes long before the rest of the house needs anything. Whether to upgrade at build or replace later is mostly a budget-timing question rather than a quality one.
Can I install hardwood in a new Fishers or Westfield build?
It depends on the subfloor. A lot of newer construction here is slab-on-grade or has substantial slab areas, and solid hardwood is generally not recommended over concrete. Engineered hardwood gives you a real wood surface that handles a slab, and luxury vinyl plank is the waterproof alternative.
Should the same flooring run through the whole house?
Usually one continuous material through the main living space reads best, with the material changing only where the room's job changes - waterproof in kitchens and mudrooms, carpet in bedrooms. Changing product at every doorway is what makes an open floor plan feel chopped up.
Is it cheaper to do the whole floor at once?
Generally yes. Doing the main level in one pass costs less per square foot than phasing it, avoids mismatched transitions between rooms done at different times, and means one disruption to the household instead of several.
